Job Overview

Toronto Tapers is looking for an experienced Drywall Project Manager/Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in the drywall industry. Jobs will be within Toronto and GTA. Additional compensation is made for jobs outside a 60km radius of our head office.

The key responsibilities of the Project Manager/Estimator are the following:

  • Review daily progress reports for active projects and track production 
  • Communicate with client and other key stake holders for entire project lifecycle 
  • Estimate commercial and residential drywall projects using estimation software 
  • Create and manage estimation database, estimation records and tender documents 
  • Coordination with vendors and suppliers for pricing of materials and for purchasing 
  • Coordinate with project foreman for daily site activities 
  • Manage purchase orders, project bills, RFI's and CO for designated projects 
  • Review bids and estimates for submission of new projects 
  • Review contracts and project specifics with clients and key stakeholders 
  • Ensure project is constructed as per design, budget, resources, quality and schedule 
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment. 
  • Manage project performance and provide performance status reports for safety, cost forecast and schedule 
  • Negotiate contracts and resolve project related issues and conflicts 
  • Understand, communicate and enforce contract documents 
  • Identify and manage project specific risks 
  • Schedule in-house crews and allocate manpower as necessary to complete work 
  • Track and review employee hours 
  • Conduct on-site quality control inspections 
  • Read and interpret architectural, structural and shop drawings 
  • Train prospective employees

Job Qualifications

  • Experienced in estimating and project managing construction projects specifically with drywall, steel framing and insulation projects. 
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in engineering, construction management, or a related field. 
  • Preference will be given to those who are either PMP certified or Gold Seal certified. 
  • In-depth knowledge of the construction industry including building materials, construction specifications, methods and procedures, construction law and building codes and safety and quality management practices. 
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills including the ability to manage project budgets and schedules. 
  • Minimum 5 years experience in estimation and project management having managed mid-to-large sized constructions projects. 
  • Able to read and interpret contract documents, specifications, architectural and structural drawings. 
  • Ability to identify and manage project-related risks and opportunities. 
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers. 
  • Must be punctual and have own means of transportation. 
  • Great attitude and willingness to learn and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, project management software and scheduling software with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology 
  • Ability to manage and mentor junior estimators and junior project managers
